Слова песни
Ah fand ye standin' lown in gress,
A river-glimmer roun' yer mane—
Nae bridle-mark, nae rider's press,
Just quiet power on the plain.
Yer een held nicht, but nae malice,
Like starns that watch and dinnae judge;
A horse o' myth, in safter guise,
Whaur wildflowers bend but never grudge.
O kelpie, kelpie, saft as rain,
Ye bide atween yer moonlit runs;
No tae steal, no tae bring pain—
Just rest beneath the simmer suns.
The loch lies doon, the reeds are still,
Yet here ye stand on open lea;
A kindly shadow, calm and real,
A breath o' mercy in the green.
They tell o' teeth and water-cold,
O riders lost in blackened foam—
But ye, ye turn frae that auld tale,
And choose the field as if it's home.
At nicht ye hunt the ragged fears
That hound the hills and worry sleep;
By day ye wear a gentler skin,
And let the quiet settle deep.
O kelpie, kelpie, saft as rain,
Ye bide atween yer moonlit runs;
No tae steal, no tae bring pain—
Just rest beneath the simmer suns.
If ever sorrow needs a road,
If ever hearts cannae find sea,
Ye lend a silence, sure and broad,
And set them doon where they can breathe.
Ah willnae climb yer back for speed,
Nor tie ye wi a human vow—
But sing ye hame tae yoursel', sweet steed,
A free one, then and now.
A free one… then and now…
O kelpie, kelpie, saft as rain,
When gloamin' creeps and licht grows thin,
Tak this wee sang, and keep it plain—
A blessing for the hunts ye're in.
Then fade like mist, but mind ye this:
Some kindness bides, though tales grow grim;
And in the meadow's helden breath,
Ye're aye the kindly, quiet hymn.
