Chapter 474: Shock and Relief...

Tendou Kikunojou, with his negative emotions at a peak and murderous intent raging, seized the chance while Tendou Kisara was caught off guard.

He flicked her blade aside and, twisting his wrist, swung his sword at her head.

"!!!"

Caught unable to dodge, Kisara's eyes went wide as she watched the cold gleam of steel close in.

But in the instant that blade sped toward her, it abruptly slowed to a near standstill.

In her eyes, it felt as if it had simplyfrozen in place.

Her senses weren't mistaken. Everything around them had slowed, almost to a halt.

Rei Ao, who had interfered with time, appeared at her side. He asked:

"Would you like to kill him right now, just like this, or do you want to defeat him head on?"

"Th-this What's going on?"

Only then did Kisara notice she could move freely, whereas Kikunojou remained frozen.

"That's not something you need to worry about."

Rei Ao gestured toward Kikunojou.

"If you want to kill him now, you can."

""

Kisara quickly reined in her shock.

"I'd rather know how to truly slay him in direct combat."

"Heh, I figured you'd choose that."

Rei Ao withdrew his hand.

"I'll give you new power. You can defeat him yourself."

"I choose that," Kisara said at once. No matter the method of gaining strength, it was precisely what she wanted.

"Then the trade's conditions will change."

"Whatever you want, I can give it, if it's something I have."

"Great. Then I want you."

"Me?"

Kisara looked puzzled. "Wasn't the content of our trade?"

"No, I mean I want you, your entire being."

She understood. Not just the right to use her body, but ownership of it.

"I don't mind." Kisara's attitude was offhand.

"But you should know, I don't have long to live."

Her delight did not escape Rei Ao's notice.

"If I'm taking you, rest assured I'll have you intact, including that injured kidney of yours."

So saying, he leaned closer. Noticing what was about to happen, Kisara didn't avoid it.

Warmth brushed across her lips, power flooding into her body. She received his protection.

[Name]: Tendou Kisara

[Level]: 12

[Abilities]: "Dragon Force", "Necro-Magic", "Sword Aura Mastery", "Rei Ao's Protection", "Inherent Device: Shura Blade"

The touch on her lips vanished. Rei Ao had already returned to stand by Seitenshi.

"Ha!"

Time resumed its flow.

Kikunojou's blade cut empty air.

"Huh?"

Kisara, back to herself, exclaimed:

"Tendou KikunojouI'm over here!"

As her will stirred, her arm was suddenly overlaid with layers of dragon scales, a crimson aura surging forth to wrap around the katana in her hands.

In an instant, it turned into a new sword a blood-hued, Shura-like blade radiating danger.

But Kikunojou, as though deranged, didn't care. He swung back around, attacking her once more.

Kisara's eyes narrowed. This time, she clearly caught every motion he made. Taking a deep breath, she seized upon his vulnerability. With a single horizontal slash, she met his blade head-on.

Clang!

Kikunojou's sword shattered on impact.

Moreover, a slash of blood-colored energy burst from the Shura Blade, ripping right through him.

Shhk!

In one stroke, Kikunojou was cut clean in half at the waist. Blood and viscera spilled out everywhere. In an instant, the conference hall became ghastly and reeked of gore. Even Kisara herself hadn't anticipated that she would kill him with a single blow.

"Have Ifinally avenged them?"

She stood there, staring blankly at the blood-red katana in her hand.

"Urk!!!"

The most extreme reaction came from Yukinoshita Haruno, who stood behind Enju and the others.

The gruesome, horrific scene assaulted her senses; she couldn't help but double over, retching. Had she eaten breakfast, she might have thrown it up.

It was her first time in her entire life seeing a corpseand not just any corpse, but one cut in half, the gore shockingly vivid.

""

Seitenshi's expression was bleak. Seeing someone she had once trusted meet this end was a terrible sorrow.

Clap, clap.

Rei Ao applauded lightly.

"Show's over."

He patted Kisara's shoulder.

"Congratulations on avenging your parents. We'll settle the rest of the reward and the benefits afterward."

He then addressed everyone else:

"Before we get down to business, do anything you like to take your mind off things."

Walking past the expanse of bloody remains, he headed for Haruno, whose face was deathly pale.

"First time seeing a dead body? Must be rough."

""

Haruno was uncharacteristically silent. Not just "rough." Earlier, during the two-person fight, it felt like watching an action movie.

But the moment she saw the gushing mix of flesh and guts, her mind went blank, body shaking with fear. Even now, she trembled, unable to stop.

Noticing her state, Rei Ao sighed:

"Let's go out and get you some air."

Whoosh!

Both figures vanished into thin aira sight so commonplace by now that no one was surprised.

High on a rooftop:

"Haruno-san, how do you feel now?"

"Better."

A gust of cold wind whipped by, blowing off the stench of blood. Though the air in this world wasn't exactly pleasant, it was far better than that gore-filled room.

The urge to throw up calmed down. But the memory of what she had just witnessed wouldn't simply vanish; she could recall it vividly. Her face remained chalk-white.

"Rei Aothat persondid he really die?"

She asked in a shaken tone, seemingly unable to believe it. She couldn't understand how Rei Ao and the others could remain so calm.

After all, that was how an actual human life ended! For Haruno, who'd only just encountered the group's worldview, this response was quite natural.

Rei Ao offered no comfort, only said,

"He is indeed dead. That's reality."

""

Too brutal for Harunoblood-drenched reality. She lapsed into silence, her thoughts a tangled mess.

"I can see how uneasy you are. Care to rest your head on my shoulder, Sister-in-law?"

Rei Ao gently pulled her closer, hinting that she could lean on him.

""

After a brief hesitation, she leaned slightly into him.

"Feel calmer?"

"No."

"Oh."

No more words were exchanged.

Unseen by Rei Ao, the fear in Haruno's face slowly faded, and a faint look of relief took its place on her lips.

Chapter 475: Witness the World's Finale... (Bonus Chapter)

Seitenshi's new law referendum caused a massive stir throughout Tokyo Area.

Those who despised and twistedly hated the Cursed Children cast "no" votes without a second thought, and some took to the streets with banners to campaign against it.

Meanwhile, a small fraction of people who felt some goodwill toward the Cursed Children were too scared to vote "yes" because it was a real-name public ballot so they opted to abstain.

So, twelve hours later:

Seitenshi gazed at the final tally, falling into an unprecedented silence:

[Yes]: 0.03%

[No]: 83.21%

[Abstain]: 16.76%

In this vast Tokyo Area, a mere 0.03% of people were willing to voice their support for the poor Cursed Children.

For the first time, Seitenshi felt the bitter chill of a callous society.

"Sigh"

Miyori Shiba found it unfortunate. Those who were locked into their twisted hatred, and those too afraid to take a step forward, would head straight for an unknown death.

Although to this day, none of them knew exactly how Rei Ao planned to "cleanse" humanity, Miori herself felt little concern she'd confirmed her own family had voted "yes," so they wouldn't be in danger.

With Velzard and the others returning, this world was ready to meet its final ending.

"Three million Cursed Children, plus nine thousand selected individuals, are all in my labyrinth now."

In sprite form, Ramiris perched on Rei Ao's shoulder and proudly thumped her chest.

"You did well,"

Rei Ao praised, then glanced around. Quite a few of them had leveled up by fighting the Gastrea.

"In that case, this world's existence is no longer necessary. You can all head back; Ramiris, stay with me."

Everyone else chose to return to their own worlds, not wanting to cause trouble. Two people, however, did not make a move: Yukinoshita Yukino.

[Name]: Yukinoshita Yukino

[Level]: 12

[Abilities]: "Dragon Force", "Law of Ice and Snow", "Rei Ao's Blessings", "Inherent Device: Ice Queen"

[Equipment]: [God-Freezing Sword]

From level 1 to level 12 clearly she had gone through plenty, shedding her immaturity and gaining a faintly chilling maturity.

Even Haruno couldn't maintain her usual "big sister" stance before Yukino now, who had also spotted something amiss with Haruno hence she hadn't left yet.

"Rei Ao, is something the matter with my sister?"

Rei Ao replied, "She was just shaken from seeing someone die. But don't worry, dear sister-in-law, I already consoled her; she should be fine."

"I see"

Yukino relaxed her worries. That was part of her development. Before, if she heard about someone dying, she might have reacted no better than Haruno.

Now, it was like hearing something mundane. What mattered most was that she trusted Rei Ao. If he said it was fine, then it was fine.

"May I stay?"

Yukino asked. She wanted to witness firsthand how this twisted world would end the same world that had transformed her completely.

"Of course."

Rei Ao gave a small smile. "Then let's watch the finale of this world together."

"Hey, how'd you vote on that Cursed Children Rights Law?"

"I obviously voted no! I've heard that Cursed Children can turn into monsters at any moment. I don't want them living alongside us as equals one day they might eat us!"

"Exactly they're just Gastrea."

By the roadside, people were huddled in idle chatter about the Cursed Children law. Races of sweat trickled down Rentarou Satomi's face as he hurried along, exhausted.

He had tried every connection he had, but still no sign of Kisara Tendou or Enju Aihara. Listening to the bystanders, a possibility arose in his mind:

"Could that Cursed Child have mutated into a Gastrea, attacked Kisara-san, and then fled?"

It might sound paranoid, but how else to explain the two of them disappearing under his nose?

Once the thought took root, he couldn't shake it. Reaching for his phone, he considered casting a vote reflexively tapping "No," only to receive a prompt that voting had ended. It meant the 12 hours had passed.

The rest of Tokyo's people hadn't taken it too seriously. But then, something unexpected happened.

The midday sky went dark.

"What's going on?"

"Is it about to rain?"

Rentarou, like everyone else, looked upward, only to discover a darkness so complete he couldn't see his hand in front of his face.

Simultaneously, every sunlit region of Earth turned pitch-black, and the places under night sank into even deeper gloom, as though all light had vanished from the world.

This bizarre change provoked alarm. People rushed out with candles, flashlights, crowding the streets, bewildered. The best guess was a solar eclipse. That was the only logical explanation for such an event.

"A solar eclipse? Today?" Rentarou frowned. He'd heard nothing about any solar eclipse in the news.

The motions of large celestial bodies in the solar system can be predicted by telescopes and satellites a forthcoming eclipse would have been calculated, announced, and widely reported.

Yet no such news had appeared. Why would a sudden eclipse occur?

Just then, faint light surfaced in the heavens.

"Look! The eclipse must be passing!"

Someone shouted excitedly. A huge crowd craned their necks. Many raised their phones to capture the phenomenon.

The sky showed a crescent-shaped glow, seemingly signifying the moon was sliding away from the sun. But abruptly, everyone noticed something strange. Rentarou's eyes narrowed.

"Whyare there two of them?"

Instead of one crescent clearing the sun, there were two! That shouldn't be possible. There was only one sun. How could there be two crescents? Could there betwo suns?

Chapter 476: Ending a World (Bonus Chapter)

As more people noticed the anomaly, the mystery quickly resolved itself.

The two glowing crescents in the pitch-black sky slowly took on spherical shapes, revealing their true nature.

"!!!"

Countless citizens stood aghast.

"That isn't the sun! Then what in the world is it?"

A moment of horror was born.

Within the infinite darkness, what brightened the sky wasn't the sun but two orbs, slowly opening, like colossal eyes as radiant as twin suns gazing coldly down at the earth, devoid of any sign of compassion.

"What do you mean, 'two eyes' in the sky?!"

Rentarou Satomi felt his brain shudder, suspecting he might be hallucinating from sheer exhaustion.

"I see two giant eyes in the sky do you see them too?"

"I see them!" came the cries of the chattering crowd, proving he was not hallucinating.

Some people fled home in terror; some thought it must be a god's advent and knelt in worship. In no time, those monstrous eyes replacing the sun's glow threw the entire world into chaos.

Strangely, these eyes hovered silently overhead, making no move. Even so, just by looking at them, one felt an indescribable, body-and-soul-shaking sense of pressure.

As time passed, their presence frayed people's nerves. Some, unable to bear it, fell into madness.

"This isn't right" Rentarou Satomi thought darkly. Gritting his teeth, he abandoned his search for Kisara, thinking first to find his foster father, Kikunojou Tendou, to see if they could figure out the bizarre crisis. But as he lifted a foot to leave

Dong! Dong! Dong!

The grand clock tower in the heart of the Tokyo Area struck midday. Rentarou paused mid-step, a strange sense prickling in him. He turned his head.

"!!!"

Then he witnessed a scene he would never forget for as long as he lived.

The chime of the bell seemed to awaken the owner of those giant eyes in the sky.
