The name meant nothing to Tohka; her face showed only confusion.
"Huh? You don't know her? That's odd" Nia blinked, clearly surprised.
Yet something else was more pressing. "Still, the people after us may have another agenda."
"From what I've uncovered, DEM's upper echelon shows an abnormal obsession with Spirits
especially their executive director, Isaac Wescott. That man"

A sudden sonic crack cut Nia off.
Tohka reacted instantly: Sandalphon materialized, cleaving apart a light blast from behind.
"Who's there!"
She stepped in front of Nia, scanning the forest with wary eyes.
Measured footsteps approached, and a tall figure emerged.
A blonde woman clad in white armor far more advanced than the mechanical soldiers', gold filigree tracing its surface.
Sharp blue eyes, a stern expression, and an overwhelming aura radiated from her.
"Impressive reflexes, Princess."
Her voice was cold.
"I am Ellen Mira Mathers, Director of DEM's Second Executive Divisionthe world's strongest Wizard.
By order of the company, I've come to 'retrieve' you Spirits."
Tohka could feel that this "Ellen" was nothing like the soldiers before.
The spiritual energy rolling off her rivaled a Spirit's, yet felt sharperlike a finely honed weapon.
"Nia, get back," Tohka said, raising Sandalphon to shield her.
"She's different from the others."
"Of course she is."
Ellen's lips curved into a frosty smile.

With a flick of her right hand, a longsword of light appeared.

The moment the words left her mouth, Ellen vanished.
A blast of wind slammed into Tohka; she instinctively lifted Sandalphon to block.

At the clash of blades, a shockwave snapped every tree in the vicinity.
"Commendable reaction speed," Ellen said from barely an arm's length away.
"But how long can you keep it up?"
Her strikes poured in like a storm, each one targeting Tohka's weak points with surgical precision.
Tohka parried by sheer instinct, clearly at a disadvantageEllen's speed, strength, and flawless technique were beyond belief.
"Tohka!" Nia cried from behind. "Her Realizer UnitPendragonis DEM's most advanced model. It perfectly replicates and counters Spirit powers!"
"Talkative Spirit," Ellen snorted.
Her left hand suddenly snapped toward Nia, firing a lance of light.

Ignoring her own safety, Tohka wrenched Sandalphon off line to intercept, succeedingbut leaving herself exposed.
Ellen seized the opening and slashed down on Tohka's shoulder.

Tohka staggered back with a cry, blood streaming down her arm and staining her violet Astral Dress.
"Tohka!" Nia rushed forward to steady her, panic in her eyes. "Are you all right?"
"I'm fine"
Tohka bit down and forced herself upright, though her face was already pale.
"Nia, run. I'll hold her off!"

Nia shouted in anger, turning her eyes to Ellen.
"You people at DEM keep saying you want to protect humanity, yet you do the cruelest things! Spirits are living beings with feelings too!"
Not the slightest change appeared on Ellen's face.
"Feelings? They're nothing more than bioelectrical signals and chemical reactions."
"The very existence of Spirits is a threat to mankind. They must be controlledan absolute truth."
She raised her lightsaber, the golden tracery on her armor flaring brilliantly.
"Smalltalk time is over. Manifestation device'Pendragon,' maximum output: engage."
A terrifying surge of Spirit power burst from Ellen, warping the air itself.
Tohka could sense that a single blow from this force would erase the entire forest.
"Nia"
Gripping Sandalphon, she whispered, "In a moment I'll hit her with everything I've got and open a gap. Youhave to use it to escape."

Nia shook her head firmly.

She pulled a small book from her pocket and flipped to a page.

Ellen's charge was complete; the lightsaber stretched into a blade dozens of meters long.

Sparks from Sandalphon's clash with the saber lit the entire forest.
Tohka's hands shook on the hilt; her palms were split, blood dripping down the blade.
Pieces of her Astral Dress were torn away, and sweat plastered her long purple hair to her cheeks.
"What's wrong, Princess? Is this all the power you have?"
Ellen's voice was icy and mocking.
Her saber suddenly morphed into dozens of chains of light that coiled toward Tohka.
She gritted her teeth, cutting most downbut three slipped through, lashing her back.
Fragments of armor scattered; Tohka gave a muffled groan and fell to one knee.
"Tohka!"
Nia cried out from a short distance away, too frightened to move closer.
Rasiel might know everything, but it was almost useless in a fight.

Tohka lifted her head with effort, the violet in her eyes burning with frustration.

Ellen looked down on them, the golden lines on her white armor flowing like living things.

She raised her saber high.

Her eyes were unfocused, lips trembling, as though still steeped in the afterglow of an entire day's "communication."

Her voice was a mosquito's buzz, yet she glared at Rei Ao.
Rei Ao leisurely buttoned his shirt.
Iridescent light played in his rainbow eyes; messy black hair fell over his brow, and a confident smile graced his handsome face.
"This is your punishment for losing, Jibril."
His voice was low and magnetic.
He descended with Jibril in tow.
The ExMachina girl Shuvi waited quietly; her red mechanical eye flickered as they landed.
"Confirmed: Flugel Jibril's energy output down 97.8percent. Threat level minimal."
Rei Ao chuckled and patted Shuvi's head.
"I've sealed her powershe's my prisoner now. Keep an eye on her and take her back to the human settlement."
Shuvi nodded. "Understood. Rei Ao-sama, are you leaving?"
A confident arc curled Rei Ao's lips.
"No need for backup. It's only a slightly stronger ant."
He set the trade terms; on Tohka's side, she quickly accepted.

Chapter 772: Shattered! Time to Raid DEM!
Ellen's lightsaber had fully charged, its destructive energy already carbonizing the surrounding trees.
Barely able to stand, Tohka dragged herself upright and placed herself in front of Nia.
With Sandalphon held horizontally before her chest, she braced for a final defense.
"Give it up, Spirit."
Ellen's voice was cold as the lightsaber swung down.
At that critical instantthe entire world suddenly froze.
Falling leaves stopped in midair, drifting dust froze like sculpture, and Ellen's blade hung ten centimeters from Tohka's forehead, unable to advance another millimeter.
Even sound fell silent; the forest sank into absolute stillness.
From the void, a tall figure stepped out.
Rei Ao surveyed the scene, multicolored irises sweeping across the suspended tableau.
When his gaze fell on Nia, slumped on the ground, the fur at his shoulders bristled slightly.
"Oh? She hasn't been captured by DEM at this point in the timeline interesting."
He walked leisurely over to Nia, bent down, and lifted her into his arms.
Nia's eyes could still move, but no sound left her lips; she could only stare in fright at this suddenly appearing man.
"Don't be afraidI'm here to help."
Rei Ao gave her a gentle smile, then moved to stand in front of Tohka.
With a snap of his fingers, he released Tohka from the time stop.
"ReiRei Ao?!"
The moment she could speak, Tohka's first reaction was excitement. "You really came!"
Rei Ao chuckled. "My little princess called for helphow could I not?"
A flash of displeasure crossed his eyes as he noted her injuries. "You're hurt pretty badly"
Tohka flexed her stiff limbs and pointed Sandalphon at the stillfrozen Ellen. "That woman is strongher armor is tailored to counter a Spirit's power!"
Rei Ao only smiled dismissively. "In the face of absolute power, any targeted design is a joke."
Setting Nia down, he told Tohka, "Take care of your friend. I'll deal with our new toy."
He walked up to Ellen and snapped his fingers again, lifting the time freeze on the entire space.
The instant time resumed, Ellen's lightsaber crashed downcarving only empty air.
Tohka and Nia had already been relocated to safety by Rei Ao's spatial jump.
"What?!"
Ellen stared, shocked, at the three figures now in the distanceespecially the blackhaired man she'd never seen before.
"Who are you? When did"
Rei Ao greeted her with refined courtesy. "Allow me to introduce myself: Rei Ao, a friend of Tohka's.
"And incidentally, the master to whom you're about to submit."
A flicker of anger flashed in Ellen's eyes. "Arrogant. If you side with a Spirit, I'll eliminate you as well!"
Raising her lightsaber once more, she pushed her armor to full power; even greater energy gathered than before.
Rei Ao merely yawned, then formed a single thought

With that casual notion, Ellen's armor abruptly began to disintegrate.
White plates peeled away, the lightsaber scattered like sand blown by wind.
In barely three seconds, DEM's vaunted pinnacle of technologythe Pendragon equipmentwas reduced to scrap on the forest floor.
But what truly terrified Ellen was the stagnant flow of energy within her own body.
She looked downonly to find herself standing stark naked in the woods, her impressive figure exposed to the air.
"Wwhat have you done to me?!"
For the first time Ellen showed shock, arms instinctively crossing to cover herself.
In a blink Rei Ao appeared before her and pulled her slender waist into his embrace.
"I've merely confiscated your toys for the moment. Now you are my toy."
Ellen tried to struggle, but to her horror her body refused to obey, leaving her limp against him.
"Let me go! DEM won't spare you!"
She roared in anger, yet without her power the threat rang hollow.
Rei Ao whispered by her ear, "Quiet, little wildcat.
"Otherwise I won't mind disciplining you right herejust as I did to Jibril."
Ellen didn't know who Jibril was, but an instinctive chill made her fall silentfor now.
