The fifth stanza

Usually, they sing four stanzas, and repeat the first one.

There are in the text of M. D. Shishkin two stanzas one by one with the same rhyming (in boldface, like English hey). These stanzas were translated partially.

Modification of pronouns and verbs

This may be necessary when other singers or a choir are involved in the performance.

Example 1. The soloist sings a stanza, and repeats the last two lines of it, accompanied by the choir. On repeat, the soloist sings I only need the darkness, / Black darkness to succeed. At the same time, the choir sings He only needs the darkness, / Black darkness to succeed.

Example 2. The male soloist sings a stanza, and then a female singer repeats the last two lines, personalizing "His darling". On repeat, the soloist pauses. The female singer sings Inside my topmost chamber / Nobody's able to pry. In other repeats, the female singer uses a third person as in example 1. Nevertheless, the soloist and female singer both sing the repeat in the fifth stanza as it is: And we will live together / Till end of our days. In the third person (for the choir, example 1), the text would be: And they will live together / Till end of their days.

The license permits such modifications.

In the following text, all such places are highlighted and marked with codes: 0) soloist; 1) like example 1, in the third person; 2) like example 2, a female singer personalizing "His darling".

Shall and will

In English, the future tense is formed with both verbs shall and will in all three persons. Shall has a nuance of obligation or forcing, and will supposes personal decision or planning.

I shall do it (because I was forced).

I will do it (because I myself have decided so).

You shall do it (because you are ordered).

You will do it (according to your plan).

Therefore, the translation runs we will live together (it's our own decision and free will, nobody forced us).

The same applies to the verbs should and would.

Shall и will

В английском языке будущее время образуется с обоими глаголами shall и will во всех трёх лицах. Shall имеет оттенок обязательности или принуждения, а will предполагает личное решение, планирование.

I shall do it. Я сделаю это (потому что меня вынудили).

I will do it. Я сделаю это (потому что я сам так решил).

You shall do it. Вы сделаете это (потому что вам приказали).

You will do it. Вы сделаете это (согласно вашему плану).

Поэтому в переводе we will live together (это наше собственное решение и добрая воля, никто нас не заставлял).

То же самое относится к глаголам should и would.
